The walks on this site centre on the Leeds Liverpool Canal stretching from the Lancashire moors to the Yorkshire Dales. As well as walks centred around the Canal we bring in areas rich in both natural and industrial heritage and history. For example we bring in the Tiffany Glass Collection at the Haworth Art Gallery in Accrington, and various walks around the Ribble Valley, always trying to point out areas known for industrial invention or development, or e.g. the types of bird life found in various natural environments. We attach a great deal of importance to routes and maps, consequently maps are included on the site where practical, and our Download section enables you to download in seconds maps relevant to particular routes. Walks from the Glasson Branch of the Lancaster Canal have been added which extend our coverage to the Lune Valley, Morecambe Bay and Cumbria, plus Stoodley Pike. Supporter's Upload works like this. Suppliers of maps, guides and other walking equipment use the Supporter's Upload facility to give our site users a sample of what they provide. Uploaded products are placed in the Download section after webmaster approval. This service is free and used to inform users of new products. The bird life in our areas is rich and varied. For example, around Wycoller and the Bronte Way can be found sparrowhawk, kestrel, lap wing, red grouse, great spotted woodpecker, meadow pipit, greenfinch, goldfinch etc. Around Gisburn Forest and Stocks Reservoir can be seen hen harrier, woodcock, bullfinch, crossbill, redpoll, treecreeper etc. |
